Jawaharlal Nehru of the Indian National Congress was the first Prime Minister of free India. At present, the office is headed by Mr. Narendra Modi of the BJP (the 14th full-time PM as in 2014) last vacated by Dr. Manmohan Singh of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA).
